LYRIC AT THE BIRCH ANNOUNCES SEASON CANCELLATION
Review of Chapter 11 Filing Causes New Speculation on Programming.
Lyric at the Birch has embarked on a journey of evolution courtesy of its recent filing for protection under Chapter 11. As we examine our options for creating a new, robust and more vibrant business model, there are some changes we wish to announce.
We are cancelling the balance of our season offerings, “Die Fledermaus” and “The Mikado.” Many of our ticket holders were already notified via digital means.
Below are some answers to the most popular questions that are surfacing regarding our decision to cancel the season.
Why are you canceling the balance of the season?
A review of the current ticket sales indicates that the audience would be mainly limited to season subscription patrons. While we gratefully appreciate the support of our loyal subscriber audience, given the current state of economy and the relative lack of non-subscription ticket purchasers, we forecast that we will not be able to produce these shows without incurring substantial losses. Recent history proves that while our productions were hailed by theatre critics, the audience capacity consisted of subscription tickets with the balance of sales coming from significantly discounted tickets. As we are already in Chapter 11, we cannot mount any productions that will result in a loss.
What about the money I paid for these tickets?
In the very near future, we will be issuing a public statement as to some options for disposition/exchange of the tickets. We believe you will like these alternate offerings, however it will take us just a bit of extra time to organize these arrangements for you.
In your initial public statement, you indicated that you were going to wait for the court system to decide on the fate of “Die Fledermaus” and “The Mikado.” What changed?
We are glad you asked! Our Board of Directors, after identifying that we could not produce these shows without
|
incurring losses, is looking at a new approach to how provide top flight entertainment to our subscribers and the community, in general. To do so, we needed to clear our stage booking calendar in order to make sure that all events that appear at the Birch North Park Theatre are exciting, desirable, entertaining and most of all, profitable. We expect that this new cornucopia of future entertainment will bring more return business and exposure to the theater along with increased revenue that will help us exit Chapter 11 protection on a more expedient basis.
We are excited about the potential of our new direction and the thrilling entertainment that will be appearing on our stage. Stay tuned over the next few weeks. We promise you something you will really enjoy. Thank you for your support during this period and as always, please feel free to drop us a line using this special address:
